A stammerer, Tartaglia can play master or servant. Traditionally he is one of the ‘vecchi’ or old characters. He can play a meek underling to Dottore adding confusion to his quackery, a well fed friend to Pantalone desiring his daughter’s hand in marriage, or even a judge passing incomprehensible sentence on a hapless dupe. He may frustrate himself by his hampered speech, or just expect others to wait until he finishes. Stammering, spoonerisms and misattributions are all in his realm.
