An older woman with a shady past, La Ruffiana is one of the Vecchi or ‘old ones’. Though she may have been a prostitute in a former life in some scenarios she is now married to Pantalone. Other scenarios have her as a travelling herb seller or wise woman. She is a gossip, has many tricks up her sleeve and is always up for an intrigue, but ultimately she has a good heart.
