The Leather Mask Tradition
Leather has been the material of choice for theatrical masks for centuries, from the Commedia dell'Arte workshops of Renaissance Italy to the rehearsal rooms of contemporary physical theatre. Each Strangeface leather mask is handmade by Russell Dean, one of the UK’s leading mask makers, using traditional artisan methods. Shaped on a hand-carved wooden mould, dried into its final expressive form, then dyed and finished by hand, every mask has a rich theatrical presence and its own individual character.

Our Leather Mask Range
We currently offer leather versions of our Commedia dell'Arte characters and neutral masks, each one a handmade original. Commissions are also welcome for bespoke leather masks to any design or specification. Made in our UK workshop in Kent, shipped worldwide.
